Second Century

Second Century an 800,000 square foot office complex located in Burbank, California designed by Frank Gehry, is home to the Warner Brother’s headquarters and claims several sustainability accolades including a LEED Gold Certification. The project demonstrated a 10% reduction in Global Warming Potential through their whole building life cycle assessment. Contributing to this achievement was the use of 70+ Environmental Product Declaration (EDP) qualified products, materials with over 30% recycled content, and a staggering 98% reduction in potable water use. Additionally, landscaping was designed to act as a carbon sink, sequestering significant CO2 as trees mature. Projections indicate that by year ten, the landscaping will sequester approximately 20,000 pounds of carbon, a figure that will rise dramatically to 120,000 pounds by year fifty. This commitment to sustainability aligns with the project’s overall carbon reduction goals, showcasing the powerful impact of thoughtful landscape design.
